Assistant Computer Officer (carrying the job title of 'Technical Manager')
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been launching an AI education project since 2019, namely CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project, which aims to mainstream AI education through maintaining a sustainable AI education ecosystem among Hong Kong secondary schools. Led by the Faculties of Engineering and Education with funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Project has been collaborating with over 160 secondary schools to reach beyond 30,000 students and is now extending to its second phase from 2022 to 2026. The Project engages secondary schools and teachers with provisions of a novel and comprehensive AI curriculum, all-inclusive AI courseware, hands-on learning on an e-platform and AI knowledge enrichment to teachers. To engage the public in AI education, the Project offers a wide diversity of public education events to enhance public understanding towards AI technologies.
The appointee will be responsible for (a) analysing, designing and implementing Jupyter-based e-learning web applications; (b) making technical decisions on system architectures, technologies, migration plans and strategies; (c) coaching junior team members for application development and project implementation; (d) liaising with external service providers; and (e) performing any ad-hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Applicants should have/be (i) a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related disciplines; (ii) at least 4 to 5 years' software development experience in Linux platform; (iii) experience in web development with PHP / Python / Jupyter stack / GPU server; (iv) experience in Learning Management System, such as Moodle; (v) experience in database systems, such as MySQL; (vi) good leadership skills to guide less experienced members; (vii) self-motivation, good analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as a good team member; and (viii) a good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Those with less experience are welcome to apply for the post of Computer Technician II (Ref V).
Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
