- Lead a team of professionals to manage intellectual properties created in the University and promote industrial liaison and outreach for technology licensing;
- Promote and coordinate knowledge transfer activities to transform the University's world-class research into practical applications;
- Work closely with the SVPIE and its line offices to formulate and implement strategies to maximize the impact of innovation at the University;
- Provide support to the University's HK Tech and the proposed Academy of Innovation (tentative name) programs through the ideation, training, technical development, funding and connections, etc. to CityU students, researchers and others to leverage the University's intellectual properties to establish high growth deep-tech start-ups;
- Establish and manage a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) studio with a team of experienced technologists and engineers to assist the start-ups in effectively transforming their research results into prototypes for further commercialization; and
- Build a strong network with internal and external collaborators to promote the KTO's core services in developing an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship at the University.
- A PhD in Science/Engineering with a proven record of professional excellence in research and innovation;
- Demonstrated track-record of leadership in technology commercialization, extensive knowledge of entrepreneurship and exposure to start-ups in a corporate or university setting;
- Experience in driving product development and commercialization of the outputs of academic research with a team of experienced technologists and world-class engineers;
- Provide guidance and assistance to the start-ups, effectively building their prototype to MVP and transforming their research results into practical applications;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to network with professional bodies, governments, the education sector, local industries and international enterprises;
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
- Passion for engaging and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and new ventures.

The Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) plays a pivotal role in the protection, exchange, and commercialization of knowledge created at City University of Hong Kong for the economic and social wellbeing of the global and local communities. Reporting to the Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise) (SVPIE), the appointee is charged with the responsibilities of overseeing the operation of the KTO, and serving as a member of the SVPIE management team in the development of all aspects of the University's innovation and entrepreneurship programs, with the following core duties:
