About the TeamThe Portfolio Management (PM) team is part of L&H Portfolio Steering & Monitoring (PSM) within the Chief Underwriting Office (CUO). The PSM aims to generate insights and connect the business to proactively steer L&H in achieving sustainable profit. Portfolio Management APAC oversees seven markets in Australia & New Zealand, China, Hong Kong & Taiwan, Japan, Korea, South East Asia, and India.
As a member of the APAC PM team, this position reports to the Head L&H Portfolio Management Greater China and collaborates closely with other team members. While the primary focus is on the Hong Kong and Taiwan markets, it also involves engagement in regional initiatives, offering valuable exposure to executive-level leaders with frequent access to Asia and Global Directors. Additionally, the team collaborates with various departments in the L&H Community, such as Pricing, Client Markets, Claims, Valuation, and Finance.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
1) Portfolio Management:
- Actively participate and support the team in delivering high-quality outcomes, collaborating with Market Units, internal partners, and external clients for effective inforce portfolio management.
2) Smart Circles:
- Support the establishment and facilitation of Smart Circles, providing portfolio insights to drive sustainable profit.
- Identify and monitor key portfolio risks, rate review triggers, and financial KPIs for timely actions.
- Manage portfolio risks proactively to preserve the value of the inforce.
- Facilitate effective information flow among cross-functional teams.
3) Driving initiatives on the inforce portfolio:
- Conduct portfolio deep dives to enhance treaty profitability.
- Review rate treaties and provide technical peer reviews.
- Perform quantitative experience analysis for inforce adjustments.
- Execute initiatives to achieve financial KPIs and inforce solutions.
4) Experience Monitoring:
- Produce regular and ad hoc monitoring analyses, including claims and retention/lapse.
- Provide key inputs for business steering and in-force management.
- Ensure timely actions are taken based on treaty review triggers or internal KPIs.
5) Inforce Referrals and Transactions:
- Assist in referral reviews for client treaty activities requiring sign-off.
- Support pre-deal transactions as key business representatives.
- Ensure proper onboarding of new business considering risk profiles.
- Develop operating manuals for clear roles and responsibilities in managing new business.
6) Support Group-wide and regional projects, including L&H PSM priorities.
About You
- Actively supports strong analytical skills and knowledge in liability portfolio management.
- Demonstrates expertise in L&H valuation or pricing with at least 5 years of experience in reinsurance or primary insurance.
- Proficient in IFRS 17 financial reporting and valuation methods.
- Possesses a solid understanding of actuarial models, financial reporting systems, and data management.
- Experienced in experience monitoring and identifying variance root causes.
- Familiar with the Hong Kong insurance market and Asian insurance industry.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Capable of engaging with stakeholders for in-force management initiatives.
- Comfortable working autonomously and in ambiguous situations.
- Proficient in written and spoken English, Cantonese proficiency is a plus.
