The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for a motivated Research Assistant Professor to join the Urban Water Systems team ().
The successful candidate will work with a group of interdisciplinary researchers in the areas of smart urban water infrastructure, fluid mechanics of waves, hydraulic transient modelling, wave-based diagnostic system and non-destructive detection techniques. The appointee will work in a diverse environment together with students, researchers and engineers to develop innovative technologies to assure water resources sustainability. Also, there will be many opportunities for attending continuing professional development modules (seminars, conferences, short courses, workshops).
This role holder reports to the project investigators and works closely together with students and researchers, technicians, contractors, and engineers from local water distribution and drainage companies and government departments (e.g. Water Supplies Department (WSD), Drainage Services Department (DSD), and Hong Kong International Airport Authority (HKIAA)).
The appointee's key responsibilities include:
Applicants should be a PhD graduate in civil engineering or relevant discipline, with experience in the following technical areas: (i) water-hammer modelling; (ii) time reversal of waves; (iii) optimization; (iv) machine learning/AI; (v) acoustics; and (vi) CFD and programming. Applicants are expected to be flexible, organized, and diligent, who are able to resolve technical issues in a practical way, meet deadlines, respond positively and adapt to changing priorities. The successful candidate should demonstrate ability to conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, and possess strong quantitative skills and experience with data analysis and modelling. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams are required. Experience in mentoring students is desirable.
Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term 2-year contract. Contract renewal will be subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits. Housing allowance may be provided where applicable.
