The Job

Your responsibilities will include:

As a Laser Diode Design Engineer, your duties and job responsibilities include the following:

• Research and Development: Conduct research and development activities focused on the design, modeling, and simulation of laser diodes and related optoelectronic devices. Stay updated on the latest advancements in laser diode technology and contribute to the advancement of the field.
• Design and Simulation: Utilize software tools and modeling techniques to design and simulate laser diode structures, optical waveguides, semiconductor materials, and device packaging. Optimize designs for improved performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Prototype Development: Work on the prototyping and testing of new laser diode designs. Collaborate with experimental physicists, test engineers, and technicians to fabricate prototypes and evaluate their performance under various operating conditions.
• Performance Characterization: Define and conduct experiments to characterize the performance of laser diodes, including parameters such as power output, wavelength, beam quality, efficiency, and thermal behavior. Analyze experimental data and iterate on designs to achieve performance targets.
• Design Validation and Testing: Develop test plans and procedures to validate the performance and reliability of laser diode designs. Conduct testing, analyze results, and troubleshoot issues to ensure designs meet specifications and requirements.
• Intellectual Property and Innovation: Contribute to the development of intellectual property by identifying opportunities for patenting novel laser diode designs and technologies. Engage in innovation and contribute to the generation of new ideas and concepts.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of design concepts, simulations, experiments, and test results. Prepare technical reports, design reviews, and presentations to communicate project status and findings to stakeholders.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that laser diode designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements. Work with regulatory affairs teams to navigate compliance and certification processes.
• Continuous Learning: Stay current with advancements in laser diode technology, semiconductor materials, optics, and related fields. Attend relevant conferences, read scientific literature, and engage with the technical community to maintain a strong understanding of the field.

The Profile

Minimum Requirements

• Educational Background: Prefer candidates with a Ph.D. or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optoelectronics, or a related field is often preferred.
• Knowledge of semiconductor physics: A solid understanding of semiconductor physics, particularly as it relates to the design and operation of laser diodes, is essential.
• Experience with semiconductor device design: Experience in the design and simulation of semiconductor devices, especially laser diodes, using software tools such as TCAD, Lumerical, or similar programs is highly valued.
• Fabrication process knowledge: Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes, including cleanroom protocols, photolithography, etching, and deposition techniques, is often required.
• Laser diode technology expertise: A strong understanding of laser diode technology, including the principles of laser operation, optical waveguides, and light-matter interactions, is crucial.
• Problem-solving skills: The ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems related to laser diode design and fabrication is important.

Preferred Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in R&D capacity such as Single Chip/Bar High Power Laser, VCSEL, FP, DFB, Tunable laser, EML, HBT, pHEMT, visible light laser, QCL, pVCSEL, etc.
