Being Early Years Teacher is a meaningful job for my life. For the whole human life, people develop their learning and different capstone in their childhood. When I was still in kindergarten, there was a remarkable teacher. From now on, I still remember how she held a science activity and “be flexible and curious”. Therefore, I believe that what teachers did for children in the past will make children behave and think in the future. Therefore, I want to be an Early Years Educator. After these four years in Yew Chung College and one-year working, there are serval things which are important to my teaching.

My expectation for children’s learning is to stimulate children’s curiosity of learning and help children explore their surroundings. Learning is a long process for children. Therefore, it is important for children to keep their curiosity of exploring different things. Therefore, when I design the activities, I hope children can share their ideas or even their experiences on the daily life.

Because of the expectation, “communication” and “play” are important in my teaching.

In different curriculum, constructing joyful and meaningful play experiences with children together is an extremely important element. Through my five years of observations in academic study and work environment, children are able to have their holistic development either academic way or social way through various play education. Furthermore, these play experiences can help children explore their learning or daily experience in positive and deep way. This certainly builds the foundation of lifelong learning, which is the principle for me to be an ECE educator.

“Communication” is also an essential element in Early Childhood Education. In order to make my teaching in a better way, I need to share my teaching ideas with different class teachers, our principal and more importantly our parents. Also, I always need to talk with the caregiver of the family and children in my class. Communicating with the family and children can help me have more understanding to children’s backgrounds, interests, and talents. That can make the teaching more suitable for children.

Since “play” and “communication” are important to my teaching, I would design the class setting and curriculum based on these two elements. For example, I like talking with children to know more about them. Based on children’s talents and interests, I will design different activities for children. Environment always is the third teacher in children’s development. Therefore, for the environment setting, I would include different elements like art elements and literary elements.

The most remarkable of being the early childhood teacher is to learn how to communicate with different stakeholders. Being a classroom teacher for two years makes me learn how to talk with each others. For example, when sharing children's daily situation with parents, you can have to modify your language even you wanted to share some concern about the child. When you encounter some difficulties in the classroom, sharing to your partners is very important. Also, because I have worked in different international schools, English always is the most common language to talk with children. Especially for the children, using simple sentence structure for the beginners can help them get used to English. 

教育

Early childhood education is the major in my bachelor degree. In the four-year learning, both academic and practical side help me learn how to being a good teacher. Academic learning helps me understand  development of the children. If I find some concerns about children in the practicum, I can seek help from the experienced classroom teachers. That help me reflect my teaching and how to be more careful to children.
