Mark Sullivan

My name is Mark Sullivan.  I am an English Language secondary school Teacher in Hong Kong.  I am passionate about active learning for learning English.  I also enjoy students working collaboratively to help each other learn. 

I prepare students for Hong Kong and international writing and speaking competitions.

I have completed a PGCEI through the University of Nottingham.  

I have been teaching English as a second language for over 14 years now.  I currently work at G.T. (Ellen Yeung) College, a Direct Subsidy School (DSS) in Hong Kong. where I have been for the last 10 years.  During my time at the school, I have taught all grades of secondary school students.  However, this year I have mainly been working with Secondary 2 and 3 students, focusing on writing skills, grammar, and preparing them for the IGCSE English as a Second Language Exam.

Apart from being a language teacher, I am also a class teacher for Secondary 2 students.  I enjoy working with the students, ensuring they are keeping on top of their assignments and dealing with any problems.

I am a member of the school's International Exchange Group and have been a chaperone teacher for international exchange trips to the UK and also summer Engiish Immersion programs in Australia.  This summer I will be taking 20 students to Brisbane, Australia to experience life in an Australian school.

I prepare and mentor students for Hong Kong and International competitions and believe that competitions are a useful way of helping students excel at English to improve and build up their confidence. 

Finally, I am a member of the school Research and Training Group and have led discussions on theory and practice to enable teachers to develop and learn from each other.

I attained a PGCEI from the University of Nottingham in 2021.  This course has helped me with my teaching and the theoretical background underpinning teaching.
