Blake Thornycroft

It's a pleasure to be writing this bio and I hope it motivates you to reach out about working with your school. I'm exciting to find the right match and provide great teaching value, both inside and out of the classroom.

I've spent most of my education career working international and I love exploring the world and gaining new and interesting perspectives. I immerse myself in the countries I live in by eating local, enjoying nature, joining clubs and events, and generally being a part of the community wherever I go. 

I have a holistic view of both my own life and education. This means I focus on engaging with things that nurture my emotional, social, and physical well-being. I love the outdoors and find it important to connect with nature. I join both physical clubs (jiu jitsu, running, hiking, rugby, and squash) as well as more academic (toastmasters, public speaking, debating, and speech festival competitions) and business (American Chamber of Commerce, HK) groups to make sure I am active and part of the community. Meeting new people, constantly learning and being a strong ambassador for my home country and schools I work with.

When it comes to my work, I possess a strong track record in achieving results while staying true to a holistic education philosophy. Achieving results in the classroom needs to be coupled with extra-curricular activities that nurture potential and passion. I enjoy participating in after school sports and clubs and you'll often find me being active and providing demonstrations with students instead of talking from the side-lines - I aim to lead by example. 

I’m proud that my ability to be a team player, resolve conflicts and problem-solve combined with on-going school experience consistently leads to strong classroom deliverables. Having happy and engaged students is key to my approach, and even if I'm teaching a particularly challenging principle, I want my students to feel involved and supported. Tailoring my teaching to both struggling students, and those who have a natural aptitude for whichever subject I am teaching. 

Parent relationships are incredibly important to me. Parents place huge trust in teachers to guide their child in the right direction. In some cases, teachers see a child more than their parents do and it's vital that I add value to repay that trust. I view the parent-teacher relationship as a partnership. Working together for the betterment of a child. Communication, care, and honestly are hallmarks of developing such a long-term partnership.

I hold a PGCE in education and have been working in the field of education for the past eight years. During this time, I have developed a deep passion for teaching and have gained extensive experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, and classroom management.

I hold Bachelor of Economics Degree,  and PGCE, TEFL and CELTA qualifications.
