    Applications are invited from outstanding young researchers for the position of Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Humanities at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

    We seek to appoint a Research Assistant Professor to build research capacity in Chinese linguistics.

    Applicants should have a PhD in linguistics with a focus on the study of Chinese in areas such as contact linguistics, areal linguistics, sociolinguistics, evolutionary linguistics, corpus linguistics, etc., areas which complement and consolidate our existing strengths.

    Applicants should have a clear commitment to research and teaching excellence. A publication record of international impact and a strong record of grant applications would be advantageous.


    The appointee will teach undergraduate courses in Humanities for general education and the major program in Global China Studies offered by the School of Humanities and Social Science as well as courses at the postgraduate level.

    English is the medium of instruction and administration at the University and proficiency in Chinese will be an advantage.

    The appointee is also expected to write grant proposals and develop collaborations within and beyond the School of Humanities and Social Science.

    Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term 2-year contract, renewable subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits. Housing allowance may be provided where applicable.
