The HKUST Library seeks an energetic and knowledgeable professional for the position of Librarian (Archives & Special Collections). This post reports directly to the Associate Director of Library Services.

The appointee will work in a vibrant team that manages the University Archives and the Special Collections.

The University Archives is actively involved in curating and preserving records and artefacts of HKUST, while the Special Collections include a renowned collection of antique maps and rare books on science and technology.

These collections consist of items from the 15th to 19th centuries, many of which are in Latin and various European languages.

Working closely with the other librarian in the team, the appointee's duties cover all aspects of the collections, including collection management, conservation and preservation, digitization, exhibition planning, and promoting the use of the collections in teaching, learning, and research.

The appointee will also collaborate with librarians in other functional units and is expected to participate in various library-wide projects.

Candidates should possess a Master of Library Science or an equivalent degree and have at least two years of post-qualification experience.

Specialized knowledge and skills in either archival management or special collections will be advantageous. The ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English and Chinese is required. Candidates should have a proven ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, both within and outside the University. Candidates with less experience may be offered the position of Assistant Manager (Archives & Special Collections).

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
