    Role Introduction

    Reports To: Head of Climate Action

    This position is responsible for planning and executing Cathay Pacific Group's Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) strategy under climate change strategy to contribute the company's target of '10% SAF usage by 2030' and 'net zero carbon emissions by 2050'. This includes evaluating and mapping out the global upstream capabilities of SAF, evaluating the reality and potential of different pathways and feedstock types for SAF, its sustainability performance, and engaging in its airworthiness and sustainability certification processes, supporting other initiatives in SAF investment opportunities as well as capturing opportunities brought about by SAF.

    Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for coupling SAF related fundamental chemical & petrochemical knowledge and engineering skills to map global upstream capabilities especially in China.
  • Evaluate the reality and potential of different pathways and feedstock types for SAF, and the chemical, thermochemical or physical route to produce fuel from any given energy and feedstock source.
  • Evaluate SAF sustainability performance of SAF projects and products of Cathay and its partners.
  • Responsible for sustainability assessment while sourcing SAF together with Procurement & Aircraft Trading Department and track the progress of documentation/proof of sustainability while delivering SAF together with Procurement & Aircraft Trading Department.
  • Engage in SAF airworthiness certification and sustainability certification process for different pathways and feedstock for Cathay and its partners.
  • Participate in industry forums to keep abrest of technology/criteira/standard development, and to help shape future industry standards and ensure Cathay is positioned to react. (including International Civil Aviation Organisation ICAO, International Air Transport Association IATA, Association of Asia Pacific Airlines AAPA, Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials RSB, International Sustainability and Carbon Certification ISCC, American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM, etc) .
  • Engage operational team on SAF related performance study and review.
  • Support other initiatives in SAF investment opportunities, etc.
  • Requirements
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in the chemical and petrochemical industry or oil refining; Experience in material and energy flow charts analysis with detailed knowledge of process and plants equipment; knowledge on ASTM, Jet A/A1, No.3 Jet Fuel or SAF; knowledge on biofuel sustainability criteria being a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar
  • A team player; strong interpersonal & communication skill; ability to work well independently and in a team environment; pioneer spirit and intrapreneurship; experience of working in a cross-cultural and highly matrixed organisation; demonstrated experience in conflict management and multi-task capability
  • Knowledge of climate change, sustainable aviation fuel especially regarding the petrochemical/engineering as well as sustainability aspect as a plus.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English. Knowing Chinese & Mandarin will be a plus.
