Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, commercial, practical and high-quality legal advice and support to Digital Banking Services (DBS) including on legislative or regulatory changes that impact DBS. DBS includes the Group’s Technology, Corporate Services, Strategic Sourcing, Performance Management, Transformation and Group Transaction functions
  • To provide legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the Group’s exposure to legal risk through its engagement with third parties is managed
  • To ensure HSBC’s business and operational strategies and initiatives are facilitated in a timely manner
  • To support the Regional Head of DBS Legal to drive transformational change in the Global DBS Legal team to deliver efficient and effective risk management of non-customer contractual risk and IP risk globally (including involvement in setting Legal policy and procedures)
  • To support the IP team within DBS Legal in the protection of the HSBC IP (e.g. trade marks, patents and copyright)
  • Proactively assist the Head of Regions - DBS Legal to manage resource capacity within the Global DBS Legal team (including its external legal service providers), to deliver a responsive service to DBS functions in Hong Kong and ASP
  • Ensure senior legal management is fully briefed on major issues and legislative changes
  • Share legal knowledge and best practices with legal colleagues
  • Qualifications

    Requirements

  • Full legal qualification with proven post-qualification experience
  • Sound knowledge of commercial, technology and intellectual property law
  • In-house or financial services experience an advantage
  • Good analytical, lateral-thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Independent approach with the capacity to effectively prioritise and work under pressure
  • Good attention to details along with the ability to handle a diverse range of issues
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Good command of written and verbal English (additional language command of Cantonese an advantage)
  • To be considered for this role, the relevant rights to work in Hong Kong is required.
