Multiple Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate positions are available in Surgical Robotics and Devices Laboratory led by Professor Shing Shin Cheng at the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering. The laboratory focuses on flexible surgical robots development, surgical image guidance, virtual reality platforms, smart sensors and actuators, and exploratory projects of artificial intelligence in the surgical robotics domain.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree (for Postdoctoral Fellow); OR a Master’s degree plus at least four years' relevant post-qualification research experiences (for Research Associate) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related engineering disciplines; (ii) strong publication records in high impact factor journals; (iii) an effective command of written and spoken English; (iv) high motivation; and (v) background in any of the following research areas: robotics, mechanical design, modeling/simulation, control, smart actuators/sensors, planning and navigation, or perception. Experiences in surgical robotics, soft robotics and medical imaging-related research is preferred. Experience in collaborating with clinical personnel will be an advantage.

The appointee(s) is expected to (a) conduct high impact and potentially technology translatable research related to surgical robotics; and (b) assist the Principle Investigator in supporting multiple research projects.

Appointment will be made on contract basis for up to eighteen months commencing August 2019.
