The Department of Microbiology invites applicants with interest in microbiome and human genetics to join a highly interactive research team studying human microorganisms (bacteria, virome, fungus) related to clinical disorders and cancers. We are using molecular genetic approaches and in vitro cell models to understand the carcinogenic potential of human microbes in cancers. Translational research on microbial biomarkers for disease/cancer prevention, diagnosis and intervention using Next-Gen sequencing and big data bioinformatics represent an increasing extension of our studies. Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree obtained within the last five years; and (ii) excellent oral and written skills for research presentation. Previous training on microbiology, molecular genomics, bioinformatics and/or in-vitro models is strongly encouraged. Duties include (a) establishing new methodologies; (b) designing and conducting research projects; and (c) assisting in writing manuscripts and research grant applications. The appointee will work at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance, mutual agreement and funding availability. Interested applicants are encouraged to include curriculum vitae, a cover letter explaining relevant work experience (maximum one page), and the contact information of three references (names, e-mail addresses and brief research background) in the online application.
