Pak Lam(Justin) Chan

A dedicated Data Scientist with a strong academic background and a proven track record, I recently earned my Master of Data Science (MDS) from the University of British Columbia, complementing my distinction in Bachelor of Computing Science (BCS). Serving as the Graduate Student Council Representative for my program and the UBC Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science, I've had the privilege of representing fellow students, which provided me with opportunities to strengthen my sense of responsibility and embrace the essence of leadership. In 2022, I was honored with a nomination for the Lieutenant Governor's Medal by Thompson Rivers University.

        With over 6 years of coding experience and 5 years of valuable work experience as a data scientist and data engineer in both the e-commerce and finance industries, I've honed my skills in data processing and analysis, specializing in web scraping and Machine Learning for consumer-related data. I'm also the Founder of an AI-powered data collector startup, dedicated to optimizing businesses by utilizing artificial intelligence and computer vision to analyze and predict visitor trends and demographics. Furthermore, my extensive volunteer experience in participating and assisting in conducting research studies in numerous academic research projects during my academic years has further enriched my expertise.

Impact Canada (Privy Council Office),  Ontario — Data Scientist (contract full time) May 2023 - July 2023

• Evaluate the effectiveness of Impact Canada's sustainability and innovation initiatives in addressing complex societal challenges using a combination of open-source data and Impact Canada’s internal data.
• Leveraged machine learning techniques, such as Logistic Regression, LASSO logistic regression, Random Forest, and XGBoost, to analyze Crunchbase data and build predictive models for understanding the connection between challenge participation and securing external funding.

• Trial encompassed a spectrum of assessments, encompassing blood sampling, max tests, oxygen evaluations, and more.
