Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the position of Museum Assistant. Theatre design professional seeking a move into the museum and archives sector. Having a strong interest in working professionally in the museum field, particularly in the physical preservation of objects. Passionated for all kinds of cultures, and the meaning behind them. Knowing art history and period style through lessons, course-works, and previous productions research. When I did historical research about the habit and style, I found my deep interest in finding out the truth and story behind every object via the museum and documentary materials. This impressed me a lot and made me want to be one of the teams to record the precious cultural heritage.

I was an Art Ambassador in the Oil Street Art Space, my main duty is to perform docent service in responding to inquiries and interacting with visitors. Thus, I am familiar with the organisational structure, general administration, and operational needs of what it takes to keep an art space and gallery running smoothly, and in keeping with the customer’s most optimised learning and enjoyment. I also participated in the Art Basel Hong Kong as one of the customer service team. I welcomed guests and solved problems with the ticketing issue at the VIP desk. I believe the above experiences together with my other backgrounds would enhance myself to face different various visitors.

Graduating from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a major in theatre design, I have studied art history and worked with costumes, props, and scenic paintings through course- works and stage productions, acquiring arts knowledge and skills in areas including textile, woodwork, and sculpting. With my professional skills in handling art pieces and my knowledge of art history and period style, I can support the museum with a better understanding of art pieces in collections.

I am also experienced in planning and coordinating programs and events for different audiences. I supervised productions by managing the costume and make-up materials, budget, schedule, etc. Cooperated with the designer, makers, and different units to help run the show smoothly. I interned in the community relations department at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), assisting in holding educational activities to promote anti-corruption messages to students and the public. I was a Red Cross and Community Youth Club member which held a variety of youth activities and events. I can hence help organise public programnes and events for the museum.

Museum archival is where I want to develop my career and is my real passion. I truly wish to have the honor to work in the museum to help with artwork or documentary preservation, becoming the conservator of collections that reflect the cultural legacy. With my experience in the art and theatre industry alongside my meticulousness and ability to learn, I am a suitable candidate for the role.
